Minutes of the
Annual General Meeting
(AGM)

2016

The annual general meeting was held on the 13th of September 2016.

Full minutes are available to members on request.

Key Points

Paul Halliday addressed the club as Chairman and was pleased to report that the club was gaining a real footing in the region with a strong and notable presence at competition as well as a now established local club derby, the Bradford-Leeds Challenge with sibling club Leeds Fencing Club.
Once again, two teams at the regional Team Foil with new members keen to get out there and fence competitively.
Finally, on competition, a source of great pride for the club that two of its members were selected for the Yorkshire Team to compete in the Veterans' Winton Cup! Paul Halliday joining Leeds' Nick Stokes & Louth's Clive Goodwin on the foil team and Tim Noble joining Wingerworth's Ev Van Gemeran & Stockport's Stefan Leoponis on the sabre team.
Pete Fletcher was thanked for his hard work and diligence in putting together a pack of governance documentation for the club - Rules of the Salle, Insurance Statement(s), Kit Roster, Procedures and Training Guides. An excellent body of work, invaluable to the club.

Tim Noble addressed the club as Secretary beginning with a note that club membership is growing and it is really great to see beginners joining the club.
Competitive fencing is very much alive within the club and with its satellite club at Titus Salt School.
Thanks to Pete Fletcher for his engineering a mobile storage solution for the club - a wheeled, lockable cabinet which is put to good use every week. While open at the club, the inside of the doors are to be used as notice boards and for suggestions.
Welcome to Guy Haley, co-opted as Welfare Officer when fellow club member Abdul Choudhury conceded that he would not be able to fulfil duties.
Final note that all fencers using electronic scoring equipment must have 800N plastrons, in accordance with British Fencing & FIE rulings.

Kat Robinson presented the club finances.
Regarding subs, it was considered whether to increase them, or introduce categories, but it was decided to keep them the same: £30 for the year with a £5 reduction for any members from the satellite club at Titus Salt, and a pro-rata reduction for anyone joining the club during the year.

2015

The annual general meeting was held on the 15th of September 2015.

Full minutes are available to members on request.

Key Points

Paul Halliday addressed the club as Chairman and was pleased to report the club was gaining a good core with old friends returning with good frequency. He hoped that new fencers felt included and noted that it was good to see the younger fencers now engaging in competition.
Great, too, to have a second qualified Coach in Peter Fletcher.
In summary, the direction of the club is good; it's friendly, inclusive, constructive and for everyone's enjoyment. Let's carry on ...

Tim Noble addressed the club as Secretary.
Club attendance is slightly up on last year, anywhere between 3 and 14 members, bringing the average up.
Tim also informed that he has been coaching at Titus Salt School and that we should consider them our satellite club as fencers there were competing under the Bradford Fencing Club banner in British Fencing run competitions.
For the club, we now have two full electric fencing piste sets.
Tim informed that we have submitted a grant application with Sport England for National Lottery funding, but that the application had been rejected initially. Revised, it has been re-submitted.

Kat Robinson presented the club finances.

2014

The annual general meeting was held on the 16th of September 2014.

Full minutes are available to members on request.

Key Points

Paul Halliday has taken the reins from James Hopkins as Chairman which he is a University in Hull.
Upon considering the role of Chairman, Paul concentrated on some fundamentals for his first year, primarily the promotion of the club and its ethics internally as a base for growth, welcoming new members and developing a stable core of membership; secondarily, to see if contact can be made with absent, lapsed and ex-members. This, Paul thinks, has been achieved.
For the coming year, promotion of the club externally and potentially stronger integration with the Yorkshire region.
In summary, Paul feels we are on a good path and wants everyone to be welcoming to people, and if someone is seen without a fencing friend, then someone should "grab them and smack swords with them!".

Tim Noble addressed the club as Secretary.
Club attendance is good with between 3 and 13 members in attendance each week, averaging 8.5 people per week.
Tim pointed out how good it was to see members return for University during their summer break and hoped to see them again in future holiday periods. Furthermore, it is good to see members returning after long breaks.

In other news, Tim and Lloyd Thompson demonstrated electric foil fencing to pupils of Crossley Hall Primary School in Thornton during July. Tim coached four classes with plastic kit during the day and £50 was donated to the club. Tim also coached a session for WI members at Thornton Recreation Centre on September 12th.
Regarding club subscriptions, Paul Halliday floated the idea that these should be increased after deciding to hold last year's level for a further year. Subscriptions account for the club's main source of income for kit - maintenance and the purchasing of new kit. There was not objection and a figure of £30 per year was agreed upon by all; a pro-rata figure would be applied to anyone joining within a year. Furthermore, a reduced figure of £24 was agreed for members joining from schools where demonstration coaching has been given.

Kat Robinson presented the club finances.

In other business, an application to Sport England is being prepared for the purchase of new kit, namely Sabre clothing, sabre weapons and further piste spool/wires which will be of benefit to the club generally.
